2012 Cos Cos Sean Nós Festival MAY 6th-8th

To follow on from our successful previous festivals, the Cos Cos Sean-Nós Festival 2012 will be something extra special. Bringing together some of the country's finest Sean-Nós dancers, musicians, singers, poets and storytellers. It will run over 3 days - May 11th - 13th 2012 in Rathcormac, Sligo.
Everyone is welcome so why not join us. Visiting musicians also very welcome!

FRIDAY MAY 6TH

• Cos Cos All Star Opening Concert

8pm Rathcormac Hall
Emerald Revellers, Johnny Connolly, Meaití Jó Shéamuis O Fátharta, Seanachaí Paddy O’Brien, Ronan Regan and Cos Cos Dancers. Entry is 10Euro and there will be a number of other special guests. We hope that you can join us for this very special event.

SATURDAY MAY 7TH

Workshops 2011:

New to the world of Sean Nós or otherwise, there's a Workshop for you. Workshop registration kicks off at 10.30am Saturday morning in Rathcormac Hall (Session 1: 11am-1pm Session 2: 2-4pm. 20Euro for both sessions or 10Euro for one. Kids half price.) • Sean Nós Dancing Workshop - Ronan Regan

Ronan Regan, Winner Fleadh Ceoil na hÉireann 2010 Sean-Nós Dance Competition, hosts the festival's biggest workshop. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced dancer, Ronan will keep you in time. Workshops kick off at 11am with registration at 10.30am on Saturday morning May 7th in the Rathcormac Parish Hall, and the afternoon session will commence at 2pm. So root out a pair of shoes you can dance in, and come join us!

• Sean Nós Singing Workshop - Meaití Jó Shéamuis O Fátharta

A wooden flute and uilleann pipes playing singer, there is no end to Meaití Jó Shéamuis O Fátharta talents. Meaití Jó will have you singing in the shower like never before, even some of the fellow tutors are likely to go to this workshop. The perfect way to set the tone for the weekend, registration for Meaití Jó's workshop begins at 10.30am.

• Accordion / Melodeon workshop - Johnny Connolly

One of Ireland's top Sean Nós musicians, he is now part of the furniture here at the fifth annual Cos Cos Festival. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced player, Johnny will always put you at ease. Accordion/Melodeon workshops run from 11am - 1pm and the afternoon workshop runs from 2 to 4pm.

• Bodhran & Bones workshop - Junior Davey

He may be junior in name but he is a seasoned All Ireland Champion musician when it comes to the bodhran. If you ever had an inkling to try your hand at the bodhran, then Juniors workshop is the one to go to. Morning session 11am Saturday May 7th and afternoon session starting at 2pm. Not sure what the Bones sound like? Get on down to Rathcormac Hall and check them out.

• Storytelling - Paddy O'Brien

Experienced Storyteller who has appeared at many festivals nationwide, he is sure to get your attention. All Ireland winner in drama and storytelling, his unique style will keep you amused throughout the weekend.

• Flute - Catherine McEvoy

Considered one of the best exponents of the Sligo-Roscommon style of flute playing, Catherine's playing has a lift that is exciting, colourful and electrifying, coupled with unexpected variations, lovely tempo and phrasing. Morning session 11am Saturday May 7th and afternoon session starting at 2pm

• Fiddle - Paddy Ryan

Paddy Ryan is a well-known and well-respected musician, teacher and Presenter on Shannonside radio, awarded Gradam an Chomhaltais in 2006, its highest accolade. Registration from 10.30am Morning session 11am and afternoon session starting at 2pm.

• Lunchtime Sessions Saturday May 7th 1pm

A number of Lunchtime sessions have been organised throughout the Drumcliffe area, so keep your eyes peeled if you are exploring the Yeat's country.

• Cos Cos Céilí in Collins' Pub - Bush Céilí band (Free entry)

Michael O'Brien, Joe Clancy and Harry McGowan - savour the friendly atmosphere of this afternoon Céilí.

• Tutors Recital (Free entry) Saturday May 7th at 4.30pm Rathcormac Hall

A favourite of regular festival goers the Tutors recital is a showcase of the experts. Promised to be energetic, uplifting and spontaneous. Stick around after the workshops and see the masters at work.

• Youth Showcase Performance 7pm Rathcormac Hall

Young people from far and wide will demonstrate their talents. There will be a variety of performances - music, song and dance. The performers will take the stage at 7pm. Entry is 5Euro and kids go free.

• Dartry Céilí Band perform at this years Saturday night Céilí - 10pm

10Euro in Rathcormac Hall The Darty Céilí band - the best in Ireland as proven at the 2009 Fleadh Ceoil where they were crowned All Ireland Champions. We look forward to dancing the night away.

• Johnny Connolly, Meaití Jó Shéamuis O Fátharta and special guests at Collins' Pub Saturday night 10pm (Free entry)

To round off a busy day, why not relax to the Sean Nos music and dance in Collins' Pub. Entertainment for your enjoyment.

SUNDAY MAY 8TH

• Outdoor Session after Festival Mass Sunday May 8th 12.15pm

Door dancing, music, song and story. Keep an eye for some raw talent and visiting participants who will be warming up for the competitions later in the day.

• 2011 - Fith Annual Cos Cos Sean Nós Dancing Competition

includes presentation of Jim Brew Trophy U-10, U-12, U-15, U-18 and Senior categories will step it out and compete for this years titles. Be sure not to miss this highly contested event. The Jim Brew Memorial Trophy will be presented to the winner of the U-12 competition. Collins' Pub 1.30pm.

• Kevin McTernan Memorial Flute Competitions

3pm Sunday May 8th Collins' Pub, Rathcormac Celebrating the life and music of Kevin McTernan who launched our festival the last two years and who sadly passed away recently. Kevin was a master flute player and advocate for traditional music in the Sligo/Leitrim area. Junior (U-16) and Senior (16+) prizes will be awarded. The Senior trophy will be awarded by Kevin's wife Lily McTeirnan.

• Kilfenora Céilí band perform - Cos Cos Sunday afternoon Céilí

Sunday May 8th 3pm Rathcormac Hall A highlight of the Cos Cos festival, this years Céilí will entertain festival goers and dancers alike with the best of Clare music. 12Euro entry fee. Arrive early.
